Candy Cane Slime

Christmas is my family’s favorite time of year! I mean what child doesn’t love Christmas, am I right? The kids countdown months before and look forward to getting our Christmas tree, baking Christmas cookies, and of course Christmas presents

They also love to do lots of fun Christmas activities and Christmas crafts!

Candy Cane Slime Recipe

One of the things that I love most about slime is how great it is for sensory stimulation and fine motor skills! Everything from squishing and pulling, to cutting it out with cookie cutters is great for developing fine motor skills!

And the feel and smell of the slime helps to stimulate the senses, making this a great activity for those with sensory processing disorder.

This scented slime is a great way to stimulate the sense of smell! I love it when a sensory activity can help more than one of the five senses:)

As you can see, slime is a great activity for kids of all ages!

Definitely add this slime to your to do list! Your kids will love it!

Essential Oils For Slime

Now you might be wondering how do you make this slime smell like peppermint?

As a naturally minded mother of four, and as an aromatherapist, I can not use a synthetic scent! I just can’t do it!

So I used Peppermint Essential Oil! Essential oils are a great way to naturally scent slime!

Peppermint Slime

Peppermint candy cane slime is really easy to make and lots of fun to play with!

You are actually going to make two different batches of slime to make this activity. The first batch will be the white part of the peppermint.

First you need to gather your ingredients for the white part:

1/2 Cup Clear Glue

2 tsp. Baking Soda

1 Tbsp. Contact Lens Solution (with boric acid in it)

2 Drops Peppermint Essential Oil

Let’s get started!

Christmas Slime Videos

You can read here to find out how to make the slime, or you can also watch the above video so that you can actually see me mix it up!

Start by adding the clear glue to a bowl. Sprinkle the two drops of peppermint oil into the glue and then stir it well.

Now add the baking soda to the glue. Mix it in well.

The only ingredient left to add is the contact lens solution. You’ll notice that as soon as you start stirring after adding the contact lens solution, that the slime will begin to become slime!

When it reaches the point that you can no longer easily stir the slime, then it’s time to start kneading and squishing it with your hands to completely incorporate the solution into the other ingredients.
